About the brand

The Uniqato wines were developed to highlight the vibrancy and personality of Bulgaria’s indigenous varieties. They appeal to a segment of wine lovers who wish to explore lesser-known varieties in search of a superior-quality wine-drinking experience.

About the wine

The grapes were picked at ultimate ripeness to obtain better concentration of flavors. The lots were fermented at different temperature and pump-over regimes. The wine had aged in Bulgarian and French barrels for 10 months. Limited release, only 28 780 bottles. Suitable for ageing. Keep the bottle in horizontal position.

What experts say:

“Tarry plummy nose, touch of spice. Some plum jam fruit and liquorish tones. Big tannins. Moderate acidity. Finish rather short for structure.” Decanter World Wine Awards 2008

Damianitza Winery, Rubin, Uniquato, S.W. Bulgaria, 2007: Developed in French and Bulgarian barriques for 10 months, showing super-dark garnet in color. Full-bodied with fine balance between gripping tannins and spicy oak, showing black and red berries on a background that hints nicely of roasted herbs and a freshly turned forest floor. Approachable and enjoyable now but best from mid-2011-2013, perhaps longer. Score 89.
